The panther is Cartier’s most enduring symbols, first appearing in
1914 as a wristwatch set with onyx and diamonds. Even while having
used this theme for almost a century, Cartier is still exploring new
interpretations of the panther. The Rencontre de Panthère introduced
in 2018 proves its creativity never runs out.
Two panther heads set with 288 brilliant cut diamonds wrestle for a
diamond ring in their jaws. They both have emerald eyes as well as
spots represented by black lacquer. The watch is driven by the Cal.
9603 MC, although it looks like a manual movement from case back,
it actually equips a peripheral rotor which connects the two panther
heads. With their motion, they serve as the oscillating weight of the
automatic movement. While this marvelous scene is bound to grab
your attention, the black dial brings a mysterious effect that everything
on the dial seems to float in the air. Bejeweled timepieces from Cartier
never go out of fashion, and with such delicate technical design, this
dazzling timepiece will have no trouble attracting the most discerning
collectors.
