It is this over one hundred years of expertise that Cartier has employed to enhance this
8.38-carat Burmese ruby.
Inspired by its provenance and its Oriental beauty, the Maison’s designers have
imagined a ring of powerful design and strong lines. The curves forming a delicate
lotus flower harmoniously marry the ruby’s cushion shape.
A bourgeoning heart, it is placed like an offering at the core of a luminous crown of
petals paved with calibre and brilliant-cut diamonds. Their mineral brilliance fans the
inner fire of the Burmese Gem stone and enhances its dazzle.
A delicate jewelled corolla, this ring entirely composed in platinum, surprises buy
its mastery of volumes, marked by a subtle spacing between the stones. A work of a
singular virtuosity, which reveals all of Cartier’s exigency and savoir-faire.

A RUBY ON A DIAMOND
COROLLA
The ring that Cartier presents was crafted around an 8.38-carat cushion-shaped ruby
from Burma. A stone as rare as it is remarkable.
It has been certified by two highly reputable independent gemmological laboratories,
one of them having established an Appendix.
This ruby particularly stands out by the purity of its substance and its colour of
outstanding quality: a vivid, radiant and rich red.
It possess all of the characteristics belonging to Burmese rubies and, more exactly, to
those extracted from the historic mines of the Mogok.
In his book Mogok, the Valley of rubies, the famous French writer-traveller Joseph
Kessel related a picturesque legend. He recounts that at the dawn of the world, a giant
eagle flying over the vast hills of Mandalay, glimpsed a spot of red on the ground
below. A red so vivid that the raptor mistook it for the bloody flesh of a tantalizing
prey. Intrigued, he pecked at it and discovered with amazement that it was actually an
enormous stone of a deceptive blood colour. Fascinated by this gem – the first ruby in
history – the eagle decided to carry it to his nest, perched on the highest and steepest
peak of the valley: Mogok.
Constructed in the heart of the Burmese Jungle, in an extremely hostile environment,
Mogok has been recognized for over a thousand years as the mythic citadel of the
most magnificent rubies. Fiery stones that have today become incredibly rare, to the
point that each appearance on the market is an event in itself.
Symbol of the most noble human fervours, for Asian civilisations this passionate red
also exhibits itself as the symbol of felicity and happiness. Talisman, this Burmese ruby
can equally be understood as an evocation of majesty and power, its scarlet colour
being reminiscent of the heavy ceremonial costumes once worn by monarchs as well
as the ornamentation of emperors’ palaces.
A MOGOK RUBY
