Located in the middle of the Yellow River Basin, Shanxi neighbors Hebei Province with the
towering Taihang Mountains as a natural barrier in the east, faces Shaanxi Province and Henan
Province with the Yellow River as a dividing line in the west and south, and adjoins Inner
Mongolia Autonomous Region across the Great Wall in the north. Shanxi is named after its
territory to the west of Taihang Mountains. It belonged to the state of Jin in the Spring and
Autumn period and the Warring States period, so it was called \"Jin\" for short; in the early
Warring States period, Han, Zhao and Wei divided the state of Jin into three parts, so it was
also called \"San (three) Jin\". The province covers a land area of 156,700 square kilometers,
accounting for 1.6% of the national total. Shanxi consists of 11 cities and 117 county-level
administrative regions. \"Ancient Chinese Civilization and Excellent Scenery\" is a high summary
of the tourism resources of Shanxi Province. There are 531 key cultural relics under nationallevel protection across Shanxi, accounting for 23.3% of the country's total, ranking first in
China. Among them, Yungang Grottoes in Datong City, Ancient City of Pingyao and Buddhist
Architectural Complex of Wutai Mountain are world cultural heritages. In 2022, the general
public budget revenue of the province achieved 345.39 billion yuan, and the regional GDP was
2564.259 billion yuan.
With the ancient name of Jinyang and Bingzhou (abbreviated as \"Bing\"), Taiyuan, the
provincial capital, is also known as Longcheng (dragon city). There are 6 districts, 3 counties
and 1 county-level city under its jurisdiction. It is the core city in the greater Taiyuan
metropolitan area and one of China's important energy and heavy industry bases. It is also the
homeland of the renowned Shanxi Merchants.
Taiyuan is the political, economic, cultural and international exchange center of Shanxi
Province. It is designated as the national demonstration area for sustainable development
agenda. Taiyuan is also China's excellent tourism city and a national forest city.
Taiyuan is a city with great historical and cultural significance in China with a history of more
