Abstract:In order to broaden the source of raw materials for the development of biodiesel industry,
crude oil was extracted from Cyperus esculentus L. seeds by petroleum ether extraction, and then the
physical and chemical properties of the oil were determined and analyzed by national standard method.
At the same time, biodiesel was prepared from C. esculentus L. seeds by esterification or transesterifica⁃
tion, and its fatty acid content was determined by GC - MS. The results of physicochemical test showed
that the oil content of C. esculentus L. seeds was 21.71 %,the acid value of crude oil was 1.65 mg
KOH/ g,the saponification value of crude oil was 196.06 KOH/ g,the iodine value of crude oil was
79.57 mg I2/100g,and the molecular weight of crude oil was 865.70. The fatty acid composition test re⁃
sults showed that the saturated fatty acid was 7.51 %,the monounsaturated fatty acid was 32.33 %,
and the polyunsaturated fatty acid was 60.16 %. The results show that the physical indexes of C. escul⁃
entus crude oil meet the requirements of biodiesel for raw materials, and can be used as a potential raw
material source for biodiesel preparation.
